Scottish Origins is leading the concept of Landscape Ecology by Design in Scotland. Our specialist design services are provided using the latest GIS/GPS/CAD technologies and uniquely incorporate landscape ecology into all of our management and design projects. Effective and efficient ecological design at the planning stages can reduce project costs considerably. Planning and designing with landscape ecology in mind can reduce planning application objections, help ensure that the best possible environmental option is taken, reduce public and conservation organisation opposition to developments, anticipate and design mitigation measures prior to application submission and help ensure that the project/development genuinely does not interrupt the dynamics of local landscape ecology. This service is also closely related to our Ecological Engineering services. Designing to enable effective migrations of native Scottish flora and fauna through the landscape, both rural and urban, is becoming an essential consideration for developers and land managers. Major issues such as climate change and how this will affect native habitat and species abilities to adapt and/or migrate to new locations is central to current debate, policy and legislation on effective design for landuse change and development.
